We are please to let our members and anyone else that visits, that there is now an Online Storm Spotters Course and has been officially approved/designated by the National Weather Service (NWS).  While there are have some other sites that have offered online "training", they all have been basically the same thing.  A site taking information provided to them during a spotter class and placing it online.  While this might provide some information, it has never been considered approved.  That is one reason our site generally does not contain any "direct" training on it.

    We were notified of a site that is now offering an approved online Storm Spotters Basic course in conjunction with the National Weather Service.  Once you have completed this training, if you local NWS Office has elected, you can register as a Storm Spotter with them.  Even if you are already a trained storm spotter, this is a great way to refresh the information you have.

    To take this online class, you just need to visit MetEd, as provided by the UCAR.  This is a free online course and is a great way to get started.
